Brisbane Heat and Australian One Day batsman Chris Lynn has undergone surgery on his left shoulder.

Lynn had an operation in Melbourne and will now commence rehabilitation.

The 27-year-old faces up to seven months on the sideline as he recovers from the shoulder reconstruction.

Brisbane Heat General Manager Andrew McShea said Lynn had opted for surgery after taking a break in the wake of Australia’s Champions Trophy campaign.

“The injury he suffered during the IPL wasn’t improving as well as he had hoped for and after consultation with Queensland and Australian medical staff, it was decided that surgery was the best for his long-term career,’’ he said.

“We’ll obviously do what is necessary to assist him in his recovery and keep him involved as we get closer to this season’s BBL.

"The time frames with this sort of injury aren’t always hard and fast and so we’ll avoid putting any unnecessary pressure or expectations on Chris as he recovers,” McShea said.

Lynn said today he had been buoyed by the advice from his surgeon Greg Hoy that the operation had been relatively straight-forward.

“Having seen someone like Johnathan Thurston go through something similar during the State of Origin series, I am confident that I’ve made the right call to have this fixed now,’’ he said.

“I had been able to get through my shoulder problems with careful management before now, but long-term this is the best thing.”

“There’s never an ideal time to be injured but I can re-set my goals now and focus on getting strong and healthy, and then getting back to doing what I love which is playing the game,” Lynn said.

He will have a post-operative consultation late today in Melbourne before returning to Brisbane.

After a period of recovery, Lynn will commence his rehabilitation at Queensland Cricket and the Bupa National Cricket Centre.
