Play Cricket Month Launches

Queensland Cricket will spread the ‘Play Cricket’ word across all corners of the State this month.

Play Cricket Month launches this week with Queensland Bulls, Queensland Fire, WBBL Heat and Brisbane Heat BBL players, and QC community cricket staff taking part in events at centres throughout Queensland.

With the support of the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) and StreetSmarts, the Play Cricket Month tour will include player appearances and events in Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Bundaberg and the Sunshine Coast.

 Play Cricket Month brought to you by StreetSmarts features:

  •        Tom Straker and Callum Vidler visiting Mission Beach and Cairns on Friday 8 August and Saturday 9 August
  •        Lucy Bourke and Mikayla Wrigley in Townsville for school visits and come and try activities at Riverway Stadium on Tuesday 12 August and Wednesday 13 August,
  •        Tom Whitney and Tom Balkin in Mackay on 20 August and 21 August for school visits and Cricket Blast launch at Great Barrier Reef Arena
  •        School Cup events in Bundaberg on 21 August
  •        Jack Wildermuth and Mikayla Wrigley on the Sunshine Coast for school and club visits on 29 August.

The tour will also incorporate road safety promotion from StreetSmarts and coincides with Queensland Road Safety Week from Monday 18 August to Friday 22 August. Queensland Road Safety Week encourages all Queenslanders to drive like they are One Team.

Cairns will launch its Woolworths Cricket Blast program on 18 August, falling between the T20 International on 16 August and the One Day International at Cazalys Stadium between Australia and South Africa on19 August.

Australia also plays South Africa in two ODI matches at Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay on 22 and 24 August.

Australia ‘A’ women will play India ‘A’ women in Mackay and Brisbane from this week through until 25 August in T20, One Day and four-day matches.

As well as the StreetSmarts Play Cricket Month Tour, community cricket events featuring Sign-Ons and Come and Try Days will be held in Toowoomba, Dalby, Miles, Roma, Charleville, Goondiwindi/St George, Longreach, Mt Isa, Claremont, Gladstone, Kingaroy, Beaudesert, Boonah, Gatton, Ipswich and Laidley across this month and next month.

The KFC T20 Max competition between Wednesday 20 August through until Saturday 6 September will also feature Come and Try events to coincide with matches at Premier Cricket clubs Toombul (Ken Mackay Oval), Wests (Jack McLaughlin Oval), Wynnum-Manly (Bill Albury Oval), Redlands (Peter Burge Oval), Ipswich (Baxter Oval) and Gold Coast (Bill Pippen Oval).

There will be a Metro Schools blitz later this month that will target schools in Brisbane North, Bayside, Easts and Redlands (BEARS), the Scenic Rim and Beaudesert, Met South-West and Gold Coast.

As part of their recently renewed partnership with Queensland Cricket, the Bulls Masters will deliver coaching and fund-raising opportunities in Mt Isa this week,with school visits, and umpires forum and attending the local Schools Blast Cup on Thursday. The Bulls Masters will also run women’s coaching clinics in Rockhampton and junior clinics in Cairns and Townsville next month.
