Gannon Cleared For Return

14 August 2013

Exciting young fast bowling talent Cameron Gannon can start packing for India after having his suspension for a suspect action lifted today.

The angular, affable big man is expected to be named in the Brisbane Heat squad of 20 for the Champions League T20 competition next month after getting the all-clear.

He made his debut for the Heat in the opening game of KFC T20 BBL|02 and was part of the travelling squad for the duration.

Gannon was delighted with Cricket Australia’s announcement following the latest biomechanical analysis of his bowling action.

“I’m obviously very happy with the news,” said Gannon, who has worked tremendously hard on his action over the last four months.

Gannon, 24, was reported for a suspected illegal bowling action during the 2012-13 Bupa Sheffield Shield final and was tested under the Cricket Australia Doubtful Bowling Action Procedures.

Results found that not all of his deliveries were legal, and on 12 April he was suspended for a minimum period of 90 days.

Observers at the Brisbane Heat intra-squad trial matches at Maroochydore last weekend were quietly confident Gannon would receive good news after seeing his smooth action under match conditions.

Gannon worked extensively with Qld Cricket high performance coaching coordinator Vic Williams, other QC staff and the Centre of Excellence to modify his action and applied to have his action reassessed once the initial 90-day period of the suspension. The latest testing was conducted at the Australian Institute of Sport biomechanics facility in Canberra on 30 July.

Gannon, took 31 wickets at an average of 23.51 in an impressive Bupa Sheffield Shield season last summer and played in the final against Tasmania in Hobart. He also collected his first five-wicket haul in one-day cricket.
