Lynn Back as QLD Captain

12 September 2018

Heat superstar Chris Lynn will make his return to the Queensland Bulls line-up and debut as captain of a new-look JLT One Day Cup squad.

Lynn was today named as skipper of the Bulls 14-man squad for their season opener on Sunday against Victoria at Townsville’s Riverway Stadium, the first time since the 2013-14 Final won by Queensland that he has been included in the team.

Lynn will play alongside Heat teammates: Max Bryant, Joe Burns, Sam Heazlett, Jack Prestwidge, Mark Steketee and Mitch Swepson.

The Heat yesterday celebrated the Test squad call-ups of Matthew Renshaw and first-time selections Marnus Labuschagne and Brendan Doggett for Australia’s tour of the United Arab Emirates next month.

Lynn said he was honoured to be awarded the Bulls captaincy for the first time.

“I’m delighted for the boys named in the Aussie squad and couldn’t be more proud of their efforts,’’ he said.

“It’s an honour to captain Queensland and I’m pretty excited about the squad we are going to put out. I’ve enjoyed the captaincy when I have had the chance to do it the past for the Brisbane Heat.

“We’ve got some experienced performers like Joe Burns in the squad so I know I will call upon their insights as well.”

“It’s exciting to start the season in Townsville. Kev Mitchell Jnr has been up there keeping an eye on things and I am sure the ground and the pitch will be in excellent condition. We know North Queenslanders love their sport so we’re looking forward to getting into on Sunday.”

Queensland travel to Townsville on Friday and will be involved in several community cricket events during their visits to the North Queensland city.

Sunday's match is one of three JLT One Day Cup games that will be hosted in Townsville in the next week thanks to the support of the Townsville City Council.

Victoria play Tasmania next Wednesday before the Bulls take on Tasmania on Saturday September 22.

The Bulls will look to its on-field performances during the tournament to benefit new charity partner Foodbank Queensland, with Queensland Cricket donating $100 for every six hit by the Bulls and the Konica Minolta Queensland Fire during the WNCL that gets underway next week.
