Redmayne Rocks The Gades’

20 November 2021

Heat opener’s superb effort with the bat was enough to keep the Renegades on their toes leading into the WBBL finals.

The Brisbane Heat won the flip and elected to bat first at the Great Barrier Reef Arena, a welcomed change from last night’s failure to chase under lights against the Sydney Thunder.

Renegades kept the Heat to 1-47 at the end of the powerplay, Gades’ captain Sophie Molineux with the breakthrough wicket of big-hitter Grace Harris (12).

An aggressive partnership between Georgia Redmayne (71 off 51) and Georgia Voll (41 off 30) proved costly to Renegades bowlers, with the duo hitting a combined 82 runs featuring 10 boundaries and two maximum’s.

Some handy runs from the Heat’s lower order allowed the home team to post a strong 156 total.

Heat quick Nicola Hancock (2-12) removed the dangerous Jemimah Rodrigues (3) in the first over of the chase, restricting the Gades’ to 2-35 at the end of the powerplay.

The Renegades failed to make any solid partnerships like their Heat counterparts, struggling to meet the hefty required run rate.

Rhiann O’Donnell (19 off 17) and former Heater Josie Dooley (35 off 27) were the Gades’ closest saving grace, scoring a combined 28 runs. Their effort was not enough to keep the Heat at bay, falling short by 43 runs.

The comfortable win puts the Heat third on the table, meaning they will play the Eliminator against the Adelaide Strikers on Wednesday 24 November.

The venue is set to be confirmed after tomorrow’s match results, as the team who finishes second on the ladder hosts both the Eliminator and the Challenger.
