Pattinson had scans yesterday that confirmed the injury and he has travelled to Melbourne with the Heat squad today.
Team medical staff will continue to assess him in the coming weeks but coach Dan Vettori confirmed their advice was that it would be unlikely he would be return in time for the BBL Finals early next month.
The Heat have the option to apply to the BBL Technical Committee to replace Pattinson but Vettori said no decisions had been made at this stage.
Brisbane has named its squad for the vital return clash with the Renegades at GMHBA Stadium in Geelong in their twilight match tomorrow.
Paceman Jack Prestwidge comes into the squad for the first time and would make his BBL debut if he plays after making his Queensland Bulls one-day debut at the start of the season in the JLT One Day Cup.
Test batsman Marnus Labuschagne also returns to the squad with fellow Australian batsman Joe Burns dropping out of the 13 that prepared for the Renegades game at the Gabba which was won by Melbourne.
Allrounder Ben Cutting is expected to play despite needing five stitches in a wound to his forehead during the Gabba match when he was struck while attempting to take a catch.
The game starts at 5.35pm Qld time tomorrow and will mark the first time the Heat have played at the venue.
