Championship Heroes Re-Sign

30 August 2019

The WBBL Brisbane Heat has celebrated the landmark of 50 days to go until the start of the historic stand-alone rebel Women’s Big Bash League by announcing it has re-signed three more of its 2018-19 championship squad.

Medium-pacer Haidee Birkett, whose miraculous outfield catch off the final ball in the semi-final against the Sydney Thunder sent the Heat into the Final, and batter Laura Harris, who hit the winning runs to clinch the title against the Sydney Sixers, are joined by rising pace bowler Georgia Prestwidge as key re-signings for Brisbane’s WBBL|05 squad.

Heat coach Ashley Noffke said each of the trio was coming off strong off-season preparations.
“Haidee has worked really hard on her variety, Laura is hitting the ball very cleanly and making excellent decisions with her batting and Georgia’s pace is probably the quickest she has been,’’ he said.
“Their preparations with the Queensland Fire have been first-rate, as has been the case with all of the girls, which is a very encouraging sign,’’ Noffke said.
The Heat has announced 12 of its 15-player squad ahead of their season opener on Saturday 19 October when they take on the Sixers at North Sydney Oval.
