Wildermuth Back For More

04 November 2021

The Brisbane Heat have added another top liner to their squad for next month’s KFC Big Bash League competition with classy allrounder Jack Wildermuth committing for a further two years.

Wildermuth was a new-ball trump for the Heat in their surge to the Finals last summer, and he has continued to build his reputation as an attacking bowling option with the Queensland Bulls so far this season.

The 28-year-old Australia ‘A’ representative joined Brisbane for his second stint with the club last year and was excited to re-sign with the club until the end of BBL|12 after taking 13 wickets at a strike-rate of 19.38, his best return in his BBL career.

Wildermuth joined with Bulls and Heat teammate Marnus Labuschagne this morning in a surprise ‘meet and greet’ for Brisbane Heat Members who were among the initial adopters of the first ever Pet Memberships under a new supporters’ offering from the club this summer. https://am.ticketmaster.com/brisbaneheat/petsclub

The pair, both dog owners, were the hit of the Albion off-leash park when they popped in earlier today.

Wildermuth’s re-signing comes as fans and supporters prepare for public tickets for Brisbane Heat home BBL games at the Gabba and Metricon Stadium to go on sale through Ticketek on Wednesday

“We had a really good season last year and I am delighted to be back with the Heat to build on that,’’ Wildermuth said.

“I’m really enjoying my cricket and it is exciting to think we are only a month and a bit away from getting into action in the BBL. It’s good there are a few more games for Queensland and then we get going,’’ he said.

Heat head coach Wade Seccombe said Wildermuth had been a key target for the club.

“We’re rapt with Jack extending his commitment to the Heat and were very pleased to finalise that in the lead-in to the tournament,’’ he said.

“He’s been very consistent for Queensland so far this season and his efforts last year in all formats was certainly eye-catching.”

“We like that he can win games with bat or ball, or both, which is what you are looking for in an allrounder.”

Wildermuth made his debut for the Heat in 2016-17 in BBL|06 before switching to the Melbourne Renegades for BBL|07 where he was a member of that club’s BBL|08 championship squad.

He has played two T20 Internationals for Australia and impressed for Australia ‘A’ against India last summer when he blazed a century in the first-class tour match, scoring 111 not out.

Wildermuth and his now Heat teammate Michael Neser took nine wickets between them in the first innings of the Marsh Sheffield Shield Final at Allan Border Field as NSW was dismissed for 143, setting the Bulls up to clinch the coveted Shield trophy.

The Heat have four more players to announce to complete their squad for BBL|07.

The Heat have announced Chris Lynn, Xavier Bartlett, Sam Heazlett, Jimmy Peirson (c), Mark Steketee, Mitch Swepson, Matt Willans, Tom Cooper, Michael Neser, Marnus Labuschagne, Jack Wildermuth, Mujeeb Ur Rahman (International), Ben Duckett (International) and Tom Abell (International) as players under contract for BBL|11 and beyond.
