The Brisbane Heat have locked in their final contracted player for the Weber Women’s Big Bash League that roars to life this Sunday at Allan Border Field.
WRIGLEY EARNS FINAL SPOT | Heat Complete WBBL Squad
Sunshine Coast wicket-keeper/batter Mikayla Wrigley was announced today as the 15thand final contracted player for the squad following the T20 Spring Challenge last week.
Wrigley, who injured her ankle during the Spring Challenge, was a contracted player for the Heat last season.
The right-hander has been in outstanding form so far this season for the Queensland Fire and for the Scorchers in the KFC Queensland Premier Cricket competition and KFC T20 Max.
Wrigley broke the record for the highest individual score in the Katherine Raymont Shield with 250no from 172 balls in a one-day match last month.
That score surpassed the previous Brisbane competition record of 209, set by Australian batter Georgia Voll in 2023, finishing with 35 fours and one six in her knock.
The 21-year-old Wrigley made her WNCL debut last season for Queensland and scored her maiden half-century when she produced 56 against the ACT last month.
The T20 Spring Challenge finished on Thursday last week with the Heat finishing runners-up to Hobart for the second year in a row in the WBBL warm-up competition.
Brisbane squad players came together this morning for the first time, welcoming West Indian allrounder Chinelle Henry following her arrival from Jamaica over the weekend, and enjoying a message from Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues in the wake of their historic ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup overnight against South Africa.
Rodrigues and Proteas allrounder Nadine de Klerk are scheduled to join the club later this week to prepare for the opening game.
The Heat will launch the WBBL when they host the defending champion Melbourne Renegades at Allan Border Field this Sunday.
Brisbane’s clash with the Renegades will be the first of a double-header at Allan Border Field that day, with the Sydney Thunder taking on Hobart Hurricanes in the second match.
As well as the Renegades, the Heat will host Perth Scorchers, the Thunder and the Melbourne Stars at their home ground at Albion between 9 November and 6 December.
They will also play a ‘neutral’ home game against the Adelaide Strikers in a double-header at North Sydney Oval on 30 November.
The Heat won six games in a row to make the Grand Final last season, the seventh season in a row the club has qualified for Finals.
