PARSONS RETURNS FOR WBBL | Spinner Back For Heat

The 23-year-old wrist spinner was announced this evening during the innings break of the opening Women’s ODI between Australia and Bangladesh at Allan Border Field.

Parsons missed last season’s WBBL as she returned to full fitness in the wake of a hiatus from the game last year.

Having previously impressed for Brisbane in WBBL|10 when she claimed 12 wickets at 20.55 in her only Big Bash season to date, the Lismore product was an important addition to the squad according to coach Mark Sorell.

“Grace is an attacking bowler and a wrist spinner, so she gives our attack that extra point of difference,” he said.

“She has demonstrated she is a wicket-taker in whatever format she plays, and so we are very pleased to have her back in the Heat squad for this season.

“Full credit to her for the way she has made her way back to playing over the past 12 months. Grace has hung in there and worked hard, and it was a special moment to see her celebrating with her Queensland teammates after winning the WNCL Final at the end of the season,” Sorell said.

Parsons was a strong contributor to the Fire’s march to the WNCL Final and eventual championship win, taking 17 wickets, including her first five-wicket haul, in her nine games.

The Heat will fill their final spot on their 15-player roster following the completion of the T20 Spring Challenge next week in Sydney.

Brisbane missed the WBBL Finals last season, the first time in eight seasons they did not feature in the deciders.
