Colin Munro to Lead the HEAT | Squad For Strikers' Clash

Opening Night hero Colin Munro will add a further string to his BBL bow tomorrow night when he captains the Brisbane Heat in their clash with the Adelaide Strikers at Adelaide Oval.

The New Zealand international led the charge with the bat last night, finishing 99 not out, as the Heat won their KFC Big Bash League season opener by a club record margin at the Gabba.

Brisbane scored 3-214 and then dismissed the Melbourne Stars for 111 to record a 103-run victory, the biggest in the team’s 12-year history.

It was only the fourth time that the Heat has won its first game of the season.

Munro, who has successfully captained T20 teams around the globe, will take on the leadership role against Adelaide in one of several changes to the Heat squad for their first away game of the competition.

With Test players Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne transferring their focus to the First Test against Pakistan in Perth next week, and Matt Renshaw, Jimmy Peirson and Nathan McSweeney in action with the PM’s XI in Canberra, the Heat has named a new-look line-up for tomorrow.

Batsmen Josh Brown, Jack Wood and Local Replacement Player Charlie Wakim come into the13-man squad along with allrounder Jack Wildermuth.

If selected in the starting team, Wakim would make his Brisbane Heat debut.

Wakim, a stand-out for Tasmania with the bat so far this season, has previously had brief stints with the Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars, playing two BBL games for the Stars in 2021-22.

Originally from NSW, the 32-year-old has hit two Marsh Sheffield Shield centuries and two half centuries so far this season.

A stint with the Sunshine Coast Scorchers in last year's inaugural KFC T20 Max competition had also seen him come to the attention of the Heat.

Tomorrow’s match will be broadcast live and exclusively on FOX Cricket, covered on radio via SEN and streamed through Kayo.

The game starts at 6.15pm Queensland time.
