The WBBL Brisbane Heat will gear up for their first home match of the Weber Women’s Big Bash League tomorrow night when they host the Melbourne Renegades at Allan Border Field.
Heat Set For Gades
The Heat are coming off a first-up win over defending champions Adelaide Strikers while the Renegades lost a thriller to the Sydney Sixers, with both teams in action in Adelaide on Sunday.
The Heat have made a change to the 13-player squad, after an injury to squad player Mikayla Wrigley forced a reshuffle.
Wrigley, the squad’s second wicket-keeper, was unavailable for selection after she was struck in the throat while playing Premier Cricket for the Sunshine Coast Scorchers on the weekend.
Under Cricket Australia’s mandatory concussion stand-down policy, she will be sidelined for 10 days, creating a vacancy for a back-up ‘keeper.
The WBBL Technical Committee has approved her replacement in the Heat squad by Queensland Fire teammate Kira Holmes.
The 21-year-old batter/keeper from the Valley club played four games for the Heat in the recent Spring T20 Challenge earlier this month, including the Semi-Final and Final.
Holmes, from Allora on the Darling Downs, was also a State campdrafter and equestrian competitor as a teenager, where she mixed competitive horse riding with cricket and other sports.
Under the WBBL rules, Holmes must also be named in the twelve and this forces out allrounder Ruby Strange who was on the bench on Sunday.
Brisbane travel to Melbourne on Friday to play the Hobart Hurricanes before heading to Perth for an extended stint where they will play two matches next week before returning to prepare for their historic clash at the Gabba on Saturday 9 November.
Tickets are on sale now for the WBBL Gabba Smash, presented by Ward, that features the Heat taking on the Strikers at the Gabba in a night fixture, the first time they will have played in prime time under lights at the venue.
Tomorrow's match will be covered live on Foxtel, Kayo and ABC Radio.
