Australian Test and ODI batsman Marnus Labuschagne will showcase a ‘Decade in Teal’ this coming season, after agreeing to re-sign with the Brisbane Heat for the KFC Big Bash League for the 2025/26 season.
MARNUS BACK FOR BBL15 | Brings Up A Decade In Teal
Labuschagne has signed a new deal to lock in his 10th season with the Heat, with the T20 all rounder and superb fielder intending to add to his deceivingly impactful and brilliant Big Bash career to date, during the coming summer holidays.
In a striking one-game cameo for Brisbane last season, he hit his highest career BBL score, 77 from 44 balls at the Gabba. It followed a trend of match-defining cameos as an integral part of the Heat’s run to the BBL|13 championship, including 45 from 33 balls in the win over the Perth Scorchers at the Gabba to secure the spot in the Qualifier Final, as well as excelling with the ball and in the field.
He also delivered key performances in BBL|12 to help Brisbane surge from near last into a spot into the Final in Perth, making eight appearances for the team and again excelling with bat, ball and in the field.
Labuschagne, currently on duty for Australia in the One Day International series against South Africa that starts tomorrow night in Cairns, is the Heat’s 17th contracted player out of their 18-person list.
Also the Queensland Bulls captain, Labuschagne emphasised his continued commitment to play matches for the Heat whenever his international schedule allowed it.
“I love playing for the Heat every chance I get. Literally every chance,'' he said.
"There is always something riding on the games and it’s my job to make a contribution every time, so it’s easy to switch on and get excited about the challenge."
“I enjoy talking with the coach and the players about the tactics and planning for the matches and always feel like I am very much a part of what is going on, whether it’s making a contribution with the bat, ball or in the field, or working off the field to contribute in any way I can.
“I’m also genuinely excited about Shaheen Shah Afridi joining us this season and, having faced him in international games, I’m rapt he’s on our side instead of bowling to us.
"There are some massive games at the Gabba this season for the Heat, and we should go into BBL|15 with a huge amount of confidence,’’ Labuschagne said.
His signing today coincides with the final hours of the exclusive Brisbane Heat BBL ticket pre-sale, with public sales opening tomorrow at midday through Ticketek or https://www.brisbaneheat.com.au/tickets .
