HEAT SET FOR PRIME TIME BIG BASH

With the Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers playing in the offshore opener in Chennai on 12 December, the Heat will boost the local BBL|15 box office opening in Brisbane on Tuesday 15 December.

The fixture list released today features five regular home games at the Gabba between 12 December and 17 January, with the Heat also playing in the last regular season game when it hosts the Sydney Thunder in the annual Road Safety Cup clash before the Finals series gets underway.

Broadcasters have confirmed their zeal for teal with nine of their Heat’s 10 matches allocated for primetime slots, including two evening games coming off the day’s play in the blockbuster Boxing Day and Sydney Pink Test matches.

The Heat will build on the success of marquee home matches, with the return of the ‘Festive Bash’ on the Boxing Day public holiday on Monday 28 December when the Heat host the Adelaide Strikers, and the “New Year’s Bash’ on the evening of New Year's Day against BBL|14 champs Hobart Hurricanes.

Brisbane Heat General Manager – Marketing and Commercial, Pete Lock, welcomed the certainty of another five blockbuster games at the Gabba in BBL|16.

“The Heat had three sold out Gabba games last season as more than 150,000 fans enjoyed the summer holiday action, including four thrilling wins at home,’’ he said.

“Our crowd total was the biggest since 2017-18 and we are excited to deliver another five must-see events these holidays. The Heat’s purpose is to bring families together and the games we have coming up at the Gabba will deliver an ideal opportunity to do that once again as we get behind our team.”

The New Year’s Bash clash with the Hurricanes will again be a showpiece event, with a headline music act to complement the BBL game on the first day of 2027.

Previous New Year’s Bash events have featured Australian artists like The Presets, Pnau, Peking Duk, Ball Park Music, Eves Karydas, Stace Cadet & KLP as well as Brisbane-based international vocalist, rapper and producer Example.

Lock said the Heat was in a strong commercial position heading into the summer.

“Our principal partner Queensland Country Bank and major partner Poolwerx will be front and centre again, with the League-leading StreetSmarts innings break show set to be bigger and brighter than ever through the support of our longtime partners Transport and Main Roads Queensland (TMR).”

“We know that interest in the BBL is at an all-time high following last season’s peak. We can’t wait welcome members and fans back to the Gabba this summer,” Lock said.

 As well as attracting 150,141 fans, the second highest crowds in the BBL last summer, the Heat’s broadcast BBL matches attracted a 762,000 average TV audience on Seven and Foxtel, including two matches that featured 1 million average national viewership.

The Heat finished fifth last season, being in the hunt for a spot in the Finals until the last regular season game.

Along the way they featured in a BBL record run-chase total of 2-258 against the eventual champions Perth Scorchers at the Gabba which was the team’s highest score and featured a record partnership between Matt Renshaw and Jack Wildermuth that featured two century-makers for the first time in a BBL innings.

Their average attendance of 30,028 was the highest since 2017-18 and the Heat sold out its public membership offerings for the second consecutive year.

New Heat head coach James Hopes will take charge of the team for the first time against the Sixers.

Thirty regular season Big Bash matches and every final will be shown live and free on Seven and 7plus.

Every BBL|16 match will be aired on Kayo Sports and Foxtel, including 10 matches exclusive to Fox Cricket.
