Redmayne Leads Way For Heat

Redmayne will take on the captaincy fulltime for WBBL|12 following Jess Jonassen’s decision to stand down at the end of the WBBL last season.

The talented wicketkeeper/batter led Queensland to victory last season as they claimed their second Women’s National Cricket League title, as well as claiming her first Jodie Purves Trophy as Queensland’s best female player.

Redmayne made her captaincy debut for the Heat against the Melbourne Stars in 2023-24, her only match as skipper to date.

Redmayne, 32, joins Delissa Kimmince, Kirby Short, Charli Knott and Jonassen to lead the team in teal.

She has played 87 games for the Heat scoring 2174 runs, including 14 half centuries with a highest score of 98no. 

In all, she has registered 144 WBBL matches out of a career tally of 196 T20 games.

Redmayne said she was honoured to lead the Heat in the coming season.

“We didn’t perform to our expectations last year, but I was encouraged by the resilience and fightback from the core of the Queensland group to bounce back and win the WNCL,’’ she said.

“We have a lot to be excited about from developing the players within our group and what we can achieve this season, as well as drawing from the experience of senior players like ‘JJ’ (Jess Jonassen), Grace Harris, Charli Knott and our internationals.”

Heat coach Mark Sorell congratulated Redmayne on her appointment.

“She is a team player and a natural leader, so she understands what needs to be done for the group,’’ he said.

“Her efforts as a captain of Queensland have been first rate and we know how determined ‘Red’ is as an individual. We think we are in very safe hands with her,’’ Sorell said.
