Kick‑start your career in sport with Brisbane Heat’s Institute of Sport and Business, through a fully integrated education and high‑performance program delivered in partnership with TAFE Queensland (RTO 0275). Our next in-take of students in January 2027.

This 12-month dual qualification Diploma of Sport and Diploma of Leadership and Management (SIS50321 / BSB50420) is delivered on‑site at Allan Border Field utilising the world class facilities of Brisbane Heat, giving students the opportunity to build practical, real‑world skills in a professional sporting environment.

Students will engage in a unique blend of classroom learning and immersive, hands‑on experiences, including 100 hours of work experience across Brisbane Heat departments. You’ll also gain exclusive access to Brisbane Heat staff, coaches, and athletes, with guest lecturers sharing valuable insights from their careers and experiences in elite and community sport.

Across your studies, you will learn core coaching principles such as planning and delivering coaching programs for high‑performance athletes, applying sports psychology, and coordinating athlete wellbeing and development. You’ll also develop critical sport‑industry capabilities including managing risk, leading teams, communication, and workplace health and safety.

Throughout the program, you will be supported by Brisbane Heat and TAFE Queensland’s highly experienced educators and industry specialists, ensuring you have the guidance needed to succeed both academically and professionally.

Graduates of the Diploma of Sport / Diploma of Leadership and Management (SIS50321 / BSB50420) may also be eligible for up to one year of university credit toward selected undergraduate degrees.

Flexible payment options may be available through TAFE Queensland. Eligible students may also be able to access Fee-Free TAFE or defer tuition fees through the Australian Government’s VET Student Loans program.

    • No ATAR requirement
    • Year 12 graduate (or equivalent)
    • Laptop and internet access required
    • Existing digital skills (Microsoft Office suite)
    • Prior volunteer or work experience preferred

     

  • Yes. Credit transfers for equivalent units are available with relevant transcripts.

  • Face-to-face classes for 2 days a week at Allan Border Field, the headquarters of The Brisbane Heat & Queensland Cricket. Virtual classes or self-directed study for approximately 6 hours per week, plus additional study time as required.

     

  • The next intake is scheduled to commence in July 2027.

  • You’ll receive correspondence from TAFE Queensland regarding your application. Successful applicants will then be able to accept their offer and enrol online.
