Gain a Head Start in the Sports Industry While Still at School

The Brisbane Heat Institute of Sport & Business, in partnership with TAFE Queensland, offers high school students a unique opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications while completing their secondary education. Designed for Year 10 and Year 11 students, the TAFE at School program combines practical learning, industry exposure, and professional development within the exciting environment of a leading sporting organisation.

Students can complete the Certificate II in Sport Coaching (SIS20321) and/or Certificate III in Sport Coaching (SIS30521) while developing valuable skills that support future pathways in sport, recreation, education, and community coaching.

Delivered one day per week during the school term at Allan Border Field – the home of the Brisbane Heat & Queensland Cricket, the program provides hands-on learning experiences that go beyond the traditional classroom. Students will develop coaching techniques, leadership capabilities, communication skills, and an understanding of how professional sporting organisations operate. Learning is brought to life through practical activities, real-world coaching experiences, and access to industry professionals who share insights into elite sport and career opportunities across the sector.

Upon successful completion, students may also contribute credit towards their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) while gaining qualifications highly valued by employers and sporting organisations.

Brisbane Heat’s indigenous artwork was collaboratively designed by WBBL player and proud Kunja woman Mikayla Hinkley and Brisbane Indigenous artist, Delores McDonald (“Aunty Delly”).

The centre circle represents the Gabba, alongside other water holes which used to be near the ground. 87 black strokes on red earth represent the wickets taken by Aboriginal great, Eddie Gilbert who played 23 games for Queensland.
